My Castle Muiderslot experience and the guided group tour

My Castle Muiderslot experience and the guided group tour

Castle Muiderslot.. the name does not ring a bell at first. But when I saw this in the list of attractions that are included in my Holland Pass, I got interested. It’s a castle! So why not get a dose of my “princess-y and fairytale” deams?

Opening Hours:

The castle is only open on weekends (Saturday and Sunday) from 12:00 until 17:00. However, from April 1 until October 31, it is open Monday to Friday, 10:00 – 17:00 and Saturday to Sunday, 12:00 – 17:00.

When I was in the Netherlands, the only time I had for this activity was during my first day because I already have to leave on the next weekend.

Front view of Castle Muiderslot

The castle is said to be the most beautiful and best kept medieval castle in the Netherlands. Although I cannot say that it is the “most” and the “best” because I have not seen other castles to compare this with but I would say that it is indeed beautiful and well-kept. It is just a small castle but I felt really exhausted going up and down the steep stairs.

You have the option to tour the castle on your own or to take the guided tour. What can you get from a guided tour? Well, there are some rooms in the castle that are only exclusive for guided tours. However, if you don’t speak and understand Dutch, I wouldn’t recommend this because what’s the purpose of the guided tour if you can’t even understand it? You also cannot do it on your own pace. But if you want to go an extra mile, you can tell the tour guide that you don’t understand Dutch and they would lend you an English guide to read during the tour. The lazy ass that I am don’t want to keep reading all throughout the tour so I didn’t consider this option.

Castle Muiderslot group tour with Dutch guide

That’s our tour guide and the group I was in. The tour guide was a funny man and it’s a shame that I didn’t understand what he was talking about.

So I think this is where they store and prepare their foods. I know there were some interesting facts that I missed because I heard “oohs and aahs” from the group. And I was just standing blankly and convincing myself that I should ask and read the English guide to save my ass.

I thought these were real foods! Like I was waiting for the group to grab some and munch something while on tour. HA HA HA! I was really hungry and tired from carrying my backpack.

A royal room in Muiderslot

The Prince’s room — or was it a princess? — I forgot but this room belongs to a royalty. As you can see there’s a small bed across the room and next to it is a baby crib. Again, I heard some oohs and ahhs from the group but I don’t know what it was about. Shame on me.

Muiderslot Castle is child-friendly..

Yep! This is one of the things that I admire because it has lots of activities for children which makes it a good venue for family time.

More activities for the children. I really wanted to try some of these but I don’t want to steal the fun from these kids.

Muiderslot Castle is simply beautiful..

Now where are you my dear knight?

You can see the castle’s garden from the knight’s tower.

One of my favorite part is the garden. It is just magical.

I felt I went back in time as I passed through this long row of arches.

This area made me feel like I was waiting for a prince charming to see me in the middle of the night. HA HA!

Amenities:

The castle has a charging point for your devices and lockers where you can leave your bags. There’s also a toilet near the lockers area. If you want to get a souvenir of your Castle Muiderslot experience, the museum shop is selling various items that you can choose from. The castle also has a tavern where you can eat delicious snacks for an affordable price while making use of their free WiFi. I was also able to charge my phone here.

So there you have it folks! My afternoon at the Castle Muiderslot. I could still remember how hyped I was while I was there. I would definitely explore other castles next time when I go to Netherlands.

Have you been to a castle before? How was your experience?
